Israel to readmit cement into Gaza

The Israeli authorities have decided to allow the entry of cement in the Gaza Strip through the Kerem Shalom (Karm Abu Salem) commercial crossing, according to the Palestinian Authority. Israel had previously blocked the entry of cement into Gaza and hundreds of factories have closed as a result of a lack of raw materials entering Gaza.

Russian market expands 8% in 2019

Cement consumption in Russia increased eight per cent to 57.8Mt in 2019, according to the country’s cement association, Soyuzcement. Cement demand in Argentina fell 25.4 per cent YoY ad 7.9 per cent MoM to 686,671t in February 2020, according to AFCP, the domestic cement association. Peru’s cement market expanded 2.1 per cent YoY to 946,000t in January 2020 from 927,000 in the year-ago period, according to the country’s cement association, Asocem. Spanish cement consumption declined 8.6 per cent in January 2020 to 1,035,484t when compared with the year-ago period. India’s cement sector is expected to increase its imports of high-sulphur petcoke in 2020 as it aims to boost production, according to company executives. Heavy rains impact Brazil's January cement sales performance

Cement sales in Brazil during January 2020 fell by 0.9 per cent YoY to 4.5Mt as heavy rains in the north and southeast impaired performance, the National Union of the Cement Industry (SNIC) has said. Ukraine’s cement output slips in 2019

The production of cement in Ukraine decreased by 0.5 per cent in 2019 when compared to 2018 and by 4.9 per cent when compared with 2017. Cement production reached 8.89Mt in 2019. The fall was attributed to the exit of HeidelbergCement from the market as well as the introduction of antidumping duties on Russian and Belarus imports.

US cement sales show modest gain in 2019

Cement sales edged up to US$12.5bn in 2019, according to the US Geological Survey (USGS). Of this total 70-75 per cent of sales were to ready-mixed concrete producers, 10 per cent to concrete product manufacturers, 8-10 per cent to contractors and 5-12 to other customers.
