Orissa likely to get new cement units, India

The Indian state of Orissa looks set to get two new cement manufacturing units as the state government’s State Level Single Window Clearance Authority on Thursday is likely to clear proposals.   Two cement majors, Madras Cement and Ajmer-based Shree Cement have shown interest in setting up cement units in the state. However, to date ASO, Grasim and OCL have signed MoUs with the state for a total production capacity of 4.9Mta.

Future of Westbury works to be revealed

The future of Lafarge’s Westbury works, UK, will be discussed at this week’s area board meeting, when representatives of cement firm Lafarge make a presentation to the public.   The Westbury works, which was opened by Blue Circle in September 1962, was mothballed in April last year due to the recession and rising costs. Camargo Correa acquires controlling stake in ??CimNacala

Brazilian company Camargo Correa Cimentos has acquired 51 per cent of Cimentos de Nacala (CimNacala) of the Mozambican Insitec group.

 CimNacala operates a grinding facility in the port city of Nacala, Nampula province.

 The cost of the acquisition was not revealed in the Saturday announcement by the company, a member of the Camargo Correa group. It also acquired limestone reserves near the plant.

Lafarge aims to double Chinese capacity

Lafarge aims to double its production capacity in China, where it currently generates 10% of its output. The group’s CEO Bruno Lafont reminded that this target was set two years ago. The Chinese production capacity of Lafarge represents 24Mt, which is the equivalent of its Western-European capacity. Lafont stressed that thanks to the sites’ extensions in the country, the company will be able to boost its output to 35Mtat the end of this year and to 40Mt in 2011. Source: Les Echos
