Segezha Packaging to close its Almería site, Spain

Segezha Packaging Group has announced to permanently stop production of paper sacks for industrial applications at its Spanish site in Almería. The Segezha Packaging S.A.U. conversion mill, which has three production lines with a total annual capacity of 100 million units, is slated to be closed in autumn this year. According to Segezha, the closure marks the complete withdrawal of the packaging company from the Spanish market. The closure stands to affect 61 employees.    

Asamer takes the train, new logistics centre opens Austria

Asamer will transport the vast amount of material produced at one of its plants via train.   Manfred Asamer, head of Upper Austrian firm Asamer, said today 80 to 90 per cent of the material at the Roitham factory – or 180,000t of gravel – will be transferred to its plant in Linz via train as of now.

The company boss revealed EUR8m had been invested in the new logistics centre which connects the plant to the railway network.

Belarus producer output rises

Cement output of Belarus’ state-run Krichevtsementnoshifer increased 15.8% on the year in January-April 2010 to 423,600t , an official with the company told Prime-Tass Thursday.   Krichevtsementnoshifer was established in 1933 and is one of Belarus’ largest cement makers. It commissioned a new 0.55Mta kiln at the end of 2007 and produces around 1.4Mta of cement.

Dangote confirms plans to raise stake in Sephaku, South Africa

The management of Dangote Group at the weekend confirmed plans to increase its shareholding in South Africa’s Sephaku Cement Limited from the present 19.8 per cent to 64 per cent.   Aliko Dangote, President and Chief Executive of Dangote Group, said the decision to increase its stake in Sephaku Cement is part of its Sub-Saharan expansion project.

Siam City Cement expects flat second quarter

Indian cement prices expected to recover

Indian cement prices are expected to recover by 5%-6% in the next financial year (2011-12) thanks to slowing capacity addition and sustained demand growth. Consequently, the industry’s operating margins will likely improve to about 26% in 2011-12, a research done by Crisil said on Thursday.  

Saman-e Gharb plant due to come on-stream, Iran

Brazil: 12-month cumulative sales up 4.9%

Latest industry data and market estimates indicate that cement sales in Brazil for May 2009-April 2010 period reached 53.7Mt  – representing a YoY increase of 4.9 per cent. Inteco to build cement plant in Tula Region

Russian real estate developer Inteco plans to build a RUB25bn cement plant in the Tula Region, business daily Vedomosti reported Monday citing the company’s representative Gennady Terebkov. Lafarge is investing around US$300m in the rehabilitation of its plant in Aceh, Indonesia which was destroyed by the tsunami in December 2004, a company spokesperson said.
