The Gujarat High Court today reserved its order on a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by farmers of Mahuva talkua of Bhavnagar opposing the proposed cement plant of Nirma Ltd in their area. Coal prices put pressure on Indian producers’ margins

The rising prices of imported coal are expected to put pressure on the margins of cement producers such as UltraTech Cement, Ambuja Cements, India Cements and Binani Cement from Apr-Jun 2010. Prices of imported coal have risen by 45 per cent to US$81.67/t from US$55/t in September 2009. Prices of inputs such as coal, slag and petroleum products have started rising and could harden in 2010-2011, pushing up costs of cement companies.

Egypt to reissue two licences

Egypt said it is to reissue production licences to two cement companies that had their licences scrapped. El Wadi Cement and North Sinai Cement had their licences cancelled late last year over start-up delays and financing shortfalls, but were granted 60 days to challenge the decision.
