Gulf Cement Company will soon hike its production capacity by 40% to 7000tpd. The company is also considering a second production line to further up the volume to 12,000tpd. Cementos Andino to start up power facility

Cementos Andino is to open a thermoelectric power plant in Venezuela power plant in the state of Trujillo, Venezuela, which is set to be the largest installed in the country.   This plant will generate approximately 40 direct jobs. It will benefit the municipalities of Candelaria, Carache, JF Marquez and the municipality Canizalez Pampán.

Spanish 1Q cement consumption falls 19.4%

Cement consumption in Spain for the first quarter of this year stood at 5.4Mt, representing a 19.4 per cent when compared with the same period the previous year, according to recent figures released by Spanish Cement association, Oficemen. Production from local plants decreased by 22 per cent from January to March, to 5.3Mt. Clinker production registered a smaller decline, and with 4.5Mt, it fell by 10.7 per cent.

NUM members strike at Lafarge, South Africa

More than 1000 members of the National Union of Mineworker’s (NUM) have begun a nationwide strike against cement producer Lafarge over wages, a spokesman says. "Lafarge must pay, they must come on board," NUM national construction sector co-ordinator Isaac Ntshangase said in a statement. Lucky Cement to sell 49.5MW power, Pakistan

Lucky Cement of Pakistan said it would generate income from selling electricity to KESC. The company has signed a Memorandum of Understand (MoU) with KESC to supply 49.5MW of electricity out of 175MW of installed capacity under gas-based tariff. According to Furqan Punjani, an analyst, the tariff would be similar to the tariff being offered to other power plants.
