Thailand’s cement: improved sales volume in January

For January, cement demand improved further in both the domestic and export markets. The Bank of Thailand (BoT) reported domestic cement sales volume rose to 2.2mn tons, up 5.4% YoY. This was the eighth consecutive month that domestic demand growth YoY was positive. Lakshmi Cement sales rise 20%

India’s JK Lakshmi Cement Tuesday reported a jump of 20.28 per cent in sales at 427,000t in February. The company had sold 355,000t of cement in the corresponding month last year, JK Lakshmi Cement said in a statement. Production of the firm also rose by 24.14 per cent to 432,00t last month from 348,000t in the year-ago period, it added.

The HeidelbergCement Ukraine Company is intending to retain the production of cement in 2010 at the level of 2009 - 1.819Mt according to Petro Hryhorchuk, sales director of HeidelbergCement Ukraine. Cement trader Kuwait Portland Cement said in a bourse statement today it registered a net profit of KWD 12.17m (USD 42.1m/EUR 31.1m) for 2009, recovering from a net loss of KWD 8.75m in 2008. The earnings per share (EPS) reached 147.32 fils in 2009, versus a loss per share of 105.94 fils in the previous year. The Pretoria Portland Cement (PPC) Botswana is currently exploring plans of establishing a manufacturing industry in Botswana.
