Czech cement output decreased by around a third YoY to 538,789t in 1Q09 and domestic cement sales dropped similarly to 492,335t, the Association of Cement Producers (SVC) said.   The main reason behind the slump is not the economic crisis but harsh winter, the SVC said.   In Jan-March, cement exports dropped by around a third on the year to 72,795t. Turkmenistan delays tender for new plant

The Turkmen Ministry of Construction Materials Industry has prolonged the international tender on construction of cement plant till June 1. The new works will be located in the Kaynarbaba – 350km southeast of the regional Lebap region - the city of Turkmenabat. On Oct. 1, 2008, Turkmenistan temporarily abolished customs duties on cement products. The document was initialed in order to further improve the country’s abovementioned products.

Adelaide Brighton Ltd Chairman Malcolm Kinnaird has said that the company expects its earnings this fiscal year to fall by up to 13% because of a continued downturn in Australian construction. Vietnam govt to guarantee US$35m loan for cement project

The Vietnamese government said Wednesday it has agreed to guarantee a loan from the Japan Bank for International Cooperation for Nghi Son Cement Corp. for a $240-million cement plant expansion project. Cement companies have added nearly 8Mt capacity in April, taking the total installed level to 219Mt. Abyssinia Cement Factory, Ethiopia, a private establishment in Chancho area, was last week given the go-ahead by the Quality and Standards Authority of Ethiopia (QSAE) to restart manufacturing and marketing its cement products.
