Indonesia production capacity to increase 2.5Mt

Indonesia’s cement production capacity will increase by 2.5M5 to 47.5Mt this year. A new factory of PT Semen Andalas in Aceh will come on stream with an annual production capacity of 1.5Mt, the association of cement producer (ASI) said. The old factory of the company, which is owned by Lafarge was destroyed by Tsunami in December, 2004. Muhammad Uthman, CEO of Saudi Arabia’s Arabian Cement, said the company will launch its first plant in Jordan next year to boost capacity, reported Reuters. The new plant, which is currently under construction, will have an annual production capacity of 2Mt by the first quarter of next year.

Peru: Cement sales to rise by more than 8%

Cement sales are forecast to total 7.34Mt in Peru in 2009, an increase of 8.3% over 2008 thanks to middle- and lower-class housing dynamism, according to the consultancy Maximixe. Lafarge faces antitrust investigation by Romanian regulators

Lafarge is under investigation by the Romanian competition regulator for abusing its market power in violation of the country’s antitrust rules. The Competition Council raided Lafarge facilities in Romania and opened the probe last week, a spokeswoman said by phone from Bucharest today. British materials giant Hanson UK has reportedly been put up for sale by HeidelbergCement, according to local press reports. According to the Daily Mail, HeidelbergCement has been sounding out bidders to pay in the region of UK£1bn for Hanson’s UK business. Shahroud Cement Factory daily output more than doubled

The second phase of Shahroud Cement Factory’s development plan was inaugurated on Wednesday, raising its daily output to 6000t from the previous figure of 2700t.
