Strabag exits Russian cement venture

Construction firm Strabag SE said Monday it is pulling out of a joint venture with a unit of Basic Element, the holding of Russian metals magnate Oleg Deripaska, as developers battle tougher global financial conditions. Minerals Corp forms US ’green’ cement joint venture

Minerals Corporation Ltd  has signed a heads of agreement with Oldcastle APG, the North American arm of CRH plc. Oldcastle APG enjoys a market leadership position for paver products in the USA. The agreement envisages a 50/50 equity joint venture to manufacture and market "green" cement products that will be suitable for the production of pavers, a high-volume business segment.

Holcim Bulgaria Merges Two Building Materials Makers

Holcim Bulgaria on Friday officially merged building materials maker Remos Beton and concrete mixtures producer Komars in a bid to become the market leader in the region of Plovdiv where the two companies are based. Dyckerhoff concern and Orenburg region agreed on plant construction

Dyckerhoff AG, a German cement concern, and Orenburg region have signed an agreement on large cement plant construction in Akbulak settlement. The ceremony of signing has taken place at VII International investment forum called Sochi-2008. Plant capacity will make about 2Mt of cement per year. Bosses of a credit-crunch hit building firm have pledged that production will not be reduced at its Clitheroe plant, according to the Lancashire Telegraph, UK. In its first trading quarter, to the end of August, Texas Industries’ turnover declined by 2.7% to US$256.4m and the pre-tax profit was down by 13.5% to US$17.2m.  Group cement volumes fell by 5.6% to 1.Mt (1.22Mst) while the cement turnover was down by 9.7% to US$111.4m. The average cement price achieved declined by 4.5% to US$100.78/t (US$91.43/st).
