Vietnam’s cement prices have fallen sharply following Government measure to stabilise prices.   Cement prices last week were down compared to prices two weeks earlier. Vicat, Sagar Cements form venture to build cement plant, India

French cement maker Vicat said it has formed a joint venture with Sagar Cements to build a cement plant at Gulbarga in the Indian state of Karnataka, India. The Vicat Sagar venture will be 51 per cent owned by Vicat and 49 per cent by Sagar, with Vicat acquiring a 6.6 per cent shareholding in Sagar Cements. Pakistani cement in demand in South Indian markets

Pakistani cement is making way into South Indian markets where its demand is rising.  Media reports quoting an official of the Kerala Cement Dealers’ Association said 50kg Pakistani cement is available in Kochi at Rs250 as compared to local cement at Rs 260 a bag. The quality of Pakistani cement is very good but the supplies are limited. A few months back, about 1000t of imported cement landed at Ernakulam at a price of Rs220 per bag when the domestic cement was costing around Rs250. 

Eurocement to start building RUB10bn Voronezh Reg plant

Russia’s Eurocement Group plans on June 26 to start building a cement plant in the Voronezh Region at a cost of over RUB10bn, a spokesperson for the regional government’s economic development department told Prime-Tass Friday.   The plant, which will be located in the region’s Podgorensky district, is expected to have an annual production capacity of about 2Mt.   The facility is expected to be launched by the beginning of 2010.

Titan America LLC maker plans to expand operations in South Norfolk, US

Titan America LLC plans to expand its cement terminal along the Elizabeth River’s Southern Branch onto an adjacent parcel of about 7 acres, company officials said.   Titan has not yet determined how much it would invest in the new facility or the number of jobs it might create, said Kate McClain, a spokeswoman for Norfolk-based Titan America.   The company has not decided how to use the entire tract, in Chesapeake’s South Norfolk neighborhood, McClain said. Bahrain-Turkey to discuss cement import

Bahrain could soon be importing construction material from Turkey, particularly cement and cast iron, it was revealed yesterday. The move follows instructions from the government and the Economic Development Board to build a strategic reserve. Indonesia’s Semen Gresik Jan-May cement sales up 12 per cent

Indonesia’s biggest cement producer by sales volume, the state-run PT Semen Gresik Tbk, said on Monday its cement sales in the first five months grew 12 per cent from a year ago to 7.28Mt as stronger domestic sales offset falling exports.   The company said it sold 6.8Mt of cement in the local market during the Jan-May period, or 16.5 per cent more than a year ago.   Meanwhile, its cement exports dropped 28 per cent to 460,805t.   Nationwide cement consumption grew 20 per cent to 15.41Mt in ...

Lafarge expands in North Africa

FLSmidth has won a contract worth approximately EUR100m to supply machinery and equipment for a new 4200tpd production line to ETA Star International LLC, Dubai. Sanko Holding signed a partnership agreement with Italian Barbetti and agreed to sell its 30 per cent stake in cement producer unit Cimko Cimento ve Beton Sanayi to Barbetti for US$390m. The deal values whole of Cimko at US$1.3bn. Cimko has two cement plants in southern Turkey in the cities of Adiyaman and Kahramanmaras.
