Semen Gresik may leave Pati due to tough land acquisition, Indonesia

PT Seman Gresik, plans to withdraw its investment from a US$320m plant due to tough land acquisition regulations.     The company’s head of communications, Saifuddin Zuhri, said the plant, located near Kendeng Mountain in Pati regency, Central Java, was expected to produce 2.5Mta.     "There hasn’t been an agreement between the company and residents. India’s ACC March cement shipments up 4.9 per cent YoY

India’s ACC Ltd said on Friday its March cement shipments rose 4.9 per cent to 1.92Mt from 1.83Mt a year earlier.     The Mumbai-based firm, in which Holcim controls about 41 per cent, said production in March was 1.89Mt, up from 1.79Mt a year earlier.     ACC has an annual cement making capacity of 19.9Mt, making it India’s single biggest cement maker.  

Pakistan cement sales up 25 per cent in July-March

Pakistani cement sales surged 25 percent in the first nine months of the 2007/08 (July-June) fiscal year, compared with the previous year, driven by growing construction demand, an industry official said on Thursday. Lafarge aims to double Chinese production

Lafarge plans to double production to 50Mta in mainland China by 2010 and pursue acquisitions in southwestern China.     "We will focus on Chongqing, Sichuan and Yunnan provinces for buy-outs," said Cyrille Ragoucy, the company’s chief executive, at the sidelines of a cement conference in Shanghai.     Mr Ragoucy did not disclose the potential targets or the amount the firm intends to devote to acquisitions.  

LSR Group unit in venture with OOO Cement Northwest, Russia

Oman Cement to raise output by 1.2Mt by 2008

Oman Cement Company has announced that its US$162m expansion will raise output capacity by 1.2Mt a year late in 2008. Mr Jamal Al Hooti CEO of Oman Cement said that "The expansion will cost US$162m to supply an extra 1.2Mta by the end of 2008 to help increase supply in the market." A cabinet minister said earlier in March 2008 that Oman Cement will raise production by 1Mta in 2009 after expanding its plant, whose capacity stood then at 1.87Mta.

Cinveste declares 2.085 per cent stake in cement maker Cimpor

Cimpor said that Portuguese holding company Cinveste, SGPS, SA has declared a 2.085 per cent stake in the cement maker. In a filing with stock market regulator CMVM, Cinveste said it bought about 1.2 million shares in Cimpor yesterday at an average price of 5.73 euros per share.

Voluntary buyout offer for Volkskcement

Local media have reported that Alfa Cement, which owns a major stake in Volskcement, has made a voluntary offer to buy out the latter’s securities at $380 a share against the current stock price of around $360. The deadline for accepting the offer is April 11, 2008 and, consequently, shares will be paid within a month.
