Cimpor’s Peruvian unit to build new plant in 2008

Cimpor’s Peruvian subsidiary Cementos Otorongo will start building a new cement factory in 2008 with a production capacity of 650,000tpa of cement, the company said. Cimpor said it plans to invest around $125m in the new factory in Peru’s southern coastal region of Arequipa. "The construction of the new plant will start in 2008 and will have an annual production capacity of 650,000t of cement, around 10 per cent of the total cement consumption in the country," Cimpor said.

Madras Cements plans expansion

Madras Cements of India will spend INR1524 crore by the end of this year to boost capacity. It will expand cement capacity to 10Mta by 2Q09, from the current 8Mta. It is also raising grinding capacity by 1Mta each at its Kolaghat (West Bengal), Chennai and Salem facilities. The Federal Government’s intervention in escalating price of cement has paid off as prices drop across the country. Small cement plants in Gujarat have decided to hike prices by Rs 12 per bag of 50 kg effective April 1.   In a recently held meeting, members of the Gujarat Mini Cement Manufacturers Association decided to raise prices in the wake of rising prices of clinker, furnace oil, coal as well as diesel.   Gujarat has 90 operational mini-cement plants with a production capacity of 5,000 tonnes per day.
