Cement prices may soften to Rs220

Cement prices would soon retract to original range of Rs200 to Rs220 per 50 kg bag in local markets, said Karachi Cement Dealers Action Committee (KCDAC) President Walibhai Patel. He appealed to the retailers and wholesalers to buy cement carefully, purchasing only according to their needs. Taiwan Cement raises prices in China due to higher material costs

Taiwan Cement Corp recently raised its prices in China to reflect higher material costs, including a 20 per cent hike in Jiangsu province to CNY300/t, the Economic Daily News reported, citing vice president Huang Chien-chiang.     The company also increased cement prices to 400 yuan from 390 per metric ton in Fujian province, he said.  

Binani Cement commissions new grinding unit in Rajasthan

Binani Cement Ltd has said it has commissioned the additional new grinding unit of the expansion project for production of cement at Neem Ka Thana in Sikar district, Rajasthan.     ’’With the commissioning of the new grinding unit the total capacity for cement production now stands at 6Mta,’’ a company statement said.  

Aditya Birla March cement sales up 2.8%

Aditya Birla Group cement sales in March rose 2.8 per cent to 3.03Mt from a year earlier.     Production was up 4.9 per cent at 3.03Mt in March, the company said in a statement on Thursday.     Sales in the financial year 2008 jumped 4.5 per cent to 30.55Mt from 29.2Mt a year earlier, while the production increased 4.8 per cent to 30.6Mt from 29.24Mt logged in the corresponding period last year.     The group commenced production at its new 1.30Mta grinding unit at Dadri in Uttar Pradesh....

Five new Saudi cement companies intend to sell 50% of their capital in initial public offerings (IPOs), local press reported. Lafarge may raise grinding capacity

Lafarge Malayan Cement Bhd is studying the possibility of increasing its grinding capacity in the near term despite concerns of a slowdown in the local construction industry. Holcim Bulgaria gets green light to acquire local building materials firm

Bulgaria’s anti-trust regulator on Wednesday gave the green light to the local unit of global cement maker  Holcim to acquire a majority stake in building materials manufacturer Remos Beton for an undisclosed sum.     Both companies are producers of cement, concrete and other building materials and the purpose of the acquisition is to increase the volume of production, the Commission for Protection of Competition said in a statement.
