Ukrainian cement production grows 8% in Jan

Cement exports from India declined by 40% in the April-January period this fiscal compared to last year due to rising domestic demand and consequent attractive realisation at home compared to export market.     India exported 3.13Mt in the April-January period, as against 5.14Mt in the same period last year. Ciments Francais, a unit of Italcementi, closed 2007 with a net profit of EUR564m (US$868.3m), down by 4.4 per cent YoY. Consolidated net profit fell 7.3 per cent to EUR466m (US$717.5m). The consolidated revenue of Ciments Francais stood at EUR4.685bn, a rise of 6.9 per cent. EBITDA went down 0.4 per cent to EUR1.209bn (US$1.861bn). Asia leads Ciments Français’ growth

Ciments Français, which covers virtually all of the non-Italian operations of the Italcementi group, improved turnover last year by 6.9% to €4,685.2m, but the EBITDA declined by 0.4% to €1.209.1m as a result of the US downturn.  The trading profit was off by 2.1% to €853.4m.  Financial charges were 1.0% lower at €93.1m, but a higher tax charge and an 11.7% increase in minorities to €97.7m left the net attributable profit 7.3% lower at €465.9m.  Capital expenditure and acquisitions emerged 22....

Frere’s GBL holding increases Lafarge stake

The holding company of Belgian billionaire Albert Frere and Paul Desmarais has raised its stake in Lafarge to just over 20 per cent, France’s AMF stock market regulator said on Wednesday.    The AMF said in a regulatory filing that the  Groupe Bruxelles Lambert holding company now had 20.04 per cent of Lafarge’s share capital, up from a previous stake of just over 18 per cent.

Work will start at the Ibese Cement plant in Yewa North Local Government, Ogun state in June this year, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, Chairman of Dangote Group has said.     Dangote, who just returned from a trip to China, told newsmen in Abeokuta yesterday that the group had signed a Memorandum of Understanding with a consortium of companies.     The consortium is led by Chinese firm, Sinoma International Engineering.

Holcim seeks transit to export clinker to India over Bangladesh
