Public listed Tokyo Cement which made a Rs. 53.9m loss in the third quarter ended December 31, 2007 plans to raise between Rs. 1.2-1.5bn through a rights issue to strengthen its capital base. Russia’s Eurocement Group to up invest in unit to RUB1bn 2008

Russian cement producer Eurocement Group plans to invest over RUB1bn rubles in one of its subsidiaries, Pikalevsky Cement, this year, Eurocement Group said Friday. In 2007, Eurocement Group invested RUB132m in the subsidiary, the group said. Pikalevsky Cement produced 2.1Mt of cement in 2007. Eurocement Group controls 16 cement plants in Russia, Ukraine and Uzbekistan. Eurocement’s annual production capacity totals 35Mt.

Sri Lanka govt to buy cement to bring down price and shortage

Danish Aalborg Portland, the world’s largest producer of white cement, boosted turnover by 10% to DKr4,919m (EUR 0.66bn) in 2007 from 2006. Pre-tax profit grew by 15% to DKr723m in 2007 and profit after tax rose to DKr 508m in 2007 from DKr458m in 2006. EBITDA rose from DKr 918m in 2006 to DKr 1,028m in 2007 and EBIT increased from DKr 641m to DKr 738m. EBIT margin in 2007 was 15.0% compared to 14.3% in 2006. HeidelbergCement AG increased its net profit to EUR2.02bn (US$3.19bn) in 2007 from EUR951m ($1.5bn) in the previous year, the company said on March 17, 2008. Tangshan Jidong Cement Co reports its net profits attributed to parent company reached CNY368m in 2007, surging 74.94% YoY.
