Turkish cement producer  Akcansa posted a net profit of 165 mln Turkish lira (US$136.5m) in the first nine months of 2007.     Akcansa registered a net profit of 133.7 mln lira ($110.6 mln/75.8 mln euro) in the same period of 2006   The pre-tax profit of the company stood at 192 mln lira ($158.8 mln/108.8 mln euro) in the nine months of 2007.     Akcansa boosted its sales by 25.6 per cent YoY to 53m lira (US$445m).     The company added it was planning to launch its Canakkale plant, north...

In spite of promises by Finnish cement producer Finnsementti, the shortage of cement has not eased in Finland. The concrete block plant of concrete product manufacturer HB-Betoniteollisuus in Jyväskylä, in Finland, was closed on 9 November 2007 as no cement was available. Egypt’s South Valley Cement announced a one-for-two rights issue which will increase the company’s capital 50 per cent to E£2.22bn (US$403.3m), the company said.     Existing shareholders will be able to subscribe to the new shares at the nominal value of £E5 a share, with no issuing fee or premium, it said in a statement. Having taken a controlling stake in Shandong Liuyuan New Type Cement in the spring, Cimpor has now announced a major investment programme for a cement project in the Shanting area of the province of Shandong that amounts to approximately EUR100m.  The programme involves a new integrated cement works with two production lines, each with a clinker capacity of 1.5m tonnes per annum.  The first kiln should be lit during the first half of 2009 and work on the second unit will begin thereafter, pr...
