Asian profits boosted by India and Kazakhstan

Lafarge rejects merger proposals from Saint-Gobain

Lafarge has rejected proposals for a merger with fellow building materials group  Saint-Gobain, French daily Le Figaro reported.    Citing unnamed sources, the paper said Saint-Gobain and  Lafarge recently held talks over a possible tie-up, and notably discussed the governance of the new entity.    But the merger scenario was rejected by Lafarge CEO Bruno Lafont, who said the project lacked industrial logic, the paper said.

Holcim open offer for India Ambuja to start Nov 14

Cimsa to buy 8 ready-mixed concrete plants

Turkish Cimsa Cimento said that it decided to buy 8 ready-mixed concrete plants along with 85 vehicles and heavy construction equipments from Bilecik Hazir Beton. In a statement issued to the ISE by Cimsa noted that the parties reached an agreement in principle regarding the acquisitions. The sales of plants and equipments are subject to the approval of the Competition Board. In May, Cimsa acquired a ready-mixed concrete plant, located in the city of Bilecik , from Pinar Beton Yapi.

Major construction projects in Bahrain are reportedly being brought to a standstill, at a cost of millions, by daily delays in trucking cement from Saudi Arabia. Egyptian cement company  Misr Cement Qena posted a net profit of E£230.15m (US$41.92m) in the first nine months of 2007, 13.6 per cent up from the same period of 2006, the stock exchange said on Tuesday.     The company’s net profit in the January-September period of 2006 was E£202.51m, it said.
