FLS bullish on capacity growth

FLSmidth has increased its estimate of the amount of new annual cement capacity that would be ordered in 2007, outside of China. It now expects it to be 125-150Mta, up from 100Mta previously. Its revised total is similar to its estimate of the 140Mta of new capacity ordered in 2006. No move to regulate cement prices: Govt

The Indian government will not administer cement prices, despite manufacturers of the construction material resorting to frequent hikes in rates.     However, to ensure adequate availability of cement in the market, public sector MMTC has been given a special dispensation license to import the material, Minister of State for Commerce Ashwani Kumar said in a written reply.     The government has also removed the 12.5 per cent import duty on the commodity, along with countervailing duty and ...

Croatian Nexe Group to build cement plant in Russia

Croatia’s Nexe Group will invest roughly EUR180m in building a cement plant in Russia’s Vladimir Region.  The capacity is said to be 1Mta of cement. A major part of the future output will be sold outside the region, whose construction industry needs just 200,000t of cement a year. Production is to be placed in Sudogda district, which has four major deposits, including two limestone deposits and two clay deposits.  

Saima Industry acquires Liupanshan Cement

Ningxia Saima Industry Co., Ltd  announced on August 22nd that its board of directors approved the ‘Proposal for the Acquisition of Equity in Guyuan City Liupanshan Cement Co., Ltd’. The company decided to acquire 100% of equity held by an individual, Shi Xin, in the latter. 

Amreya Cement H1 net profit down 11 per cent

Egypt’s Amreya Cement made a net profit of E£134.3m (US$23.6m) in the first half of 2007, 11 per cent down on the same period a year earlier, the stock exchange said on Wednesday.     The company did not give a reason for the decline in profit, which was reported before minority interest.   

Shree Cement plans to set up new plant

Shree Cement Ltd plans to invest INR10bn to set up a 2Mta cement plant in the central Indian state of Chattisgarh, its managing director said on Wednesday.     "We are trying to set up a cement plant in Chattisgarh, but we are yet to get the limestone mining lease," H.M. Belarus cement output rises by 12.8 per cent

The output of cement in Belarus in the first seven months of 2007 totaled more than 2.2Mt, 12.8 per cent more than in the same period in 2006, reported the Ministry of Statistics and Analysis.     July’s cement output amounted to 377,900t, nine percent more than in July 2006.     The production of building materials in the first seven months of 2007 reportedly totaled 1,696.8 billion rubels, a 14.3 per cent YoY increase.
