Shiva Cement, said its Board of Directors are planning to issue 10 lakh equity shares at a price of Rs 9 each to domestic financial institution IFCI, on preferential allotment basis. CRH enters Spanish market

Irish construction materials specialist CRH has joined forces with Jelf Brico House, the local owner of 10 DIY stores in Spain, to enter the Spanish do-it-yourself market.     CRH, which has a 26.3 per cent stake in Spanish cement manufacturer Uniland, has acquired a majority stake in Jelf Brico House. The 10 stores will each cover an area of some 1,000 sq m.  

Malaysia to review cement prices quarterly from next year

Cemex sees higher revenues despite US downturn

Cemex said it sees second-quarter revenues of above US$4.9bn, about six per cent more than in the same period a year ago.     Cemex  also forecast quarterly earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization, or EBITDA, of $1.12bn, a two per cent decrease on the year-ago period.     The company reiterated an EBITDA forecast of $4.3bn for all of 2007, compared to $4.1bn in 2006 and $3.6bn in 2005.     That is despite a downturn in its top U.S. market, where higher interest rate...

Peruvian domestic cement sales stood at 2.23Mt in the period January to May 2007, up 12.9 per cent YoY, the country’s Association of Cement Companies (Asocem) said.     Peru’s cement exports dropped 74.1 per cent YoY to about 90,000t. UAE faces cement oversupply

There could be a glut of cement capacity in the UAE within three years if all planned plant expansions go ahead, Gulf News reported. The UAE plans to boost annual production to 50Mt by 2009, making it the second largest cement producer in the GCC, according to the director of the Ministry of Public Works. Local demand is expected to reach around 17Mta in three years, creating a surplus of supply, the report said.

Cement manufacturers and producers have responded positively to a call by the Ministry of Economy (MoE) directing them not to increase prices and maintain price stability in the local market.
