Lithuanian cement plant curbs exports to meet domestic demand

Akmenes Cementas (Stone Cement) announced last week that it was curbing exports in order to keep up with domestic demand and would borrow some EUR61m in a syndicated deal to modernize its cement plant, the only one in Lithuania. Akmenes Cementas’ chief executive said the company has halted exports to Finland and the Russian exclave of Kaliningrad as it struggles to meet demand for cement in Lithuania, which is currently undergoing a construction boom.

Vicat to clarify Heidelberg stake sale on May 30

Indonesia cement consumption in April Fell by 10.5%

Cement manufacturers have hit back at allegations that buildings are being delayed because of cement shortages. Concrete suppliers expressed ‘grave concern’ over the shortages which they said had caused job losses and closure of production lines. Cement production in Pakistan would cross 45Mta in next four years to meet the country’s increasing demand of infrastructure development, a senior government official said Tuesday. China cement output accelerates

Investment in China’s steel, electrolytic aluminum and cement sectors accelerated in the first four months of this year, the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) said. The country’s state planner said investment in the steelmaking industry rose 6.2 pct year-on-year; in the electrolytic aluminum industry it grew 48.2 pct, and in the cement sector it was up by just over 5.0 pct. The NDRC did not provide details on the actual levels of investment.

Moscow area builders are becoming increasingly concerned about the rising price of cement and rebars used in construction, Vedomosti reports. Prices for both materials have grown by roughly 30% since the start of the year (report analysts at Aton, Moscow).
