Spanish cement consumption to May up 2.9%

Cement consumption in Spain during the first four months of the year increased 2.9 per cent from the same period a year earlier to 18.4Mt, industry association Oficemen said Friday. Consumption in April alone was up 0.03 per cent at 4.2Mt. Domestic output in the four months climbed 3.7 per cent from a year earlier to 17.8Mt. Imports fell 1.4 per cent to 4Mt.

Holcim is urging Waitaki residents to have their say on its proposal for a $200m plant at Weston, near Oamaru. ANCAP to partner Camargo Correa and PDVSA

Uruguayan ANCAP plans to partner Brazilian Camargo Correa and Venezuelan PDVSA in the construction of  cement plants in Paysandu. ANCAP has already signed a memorandum of understanding with Camargo Correa for the construction of a plant with export capacity of 500,000tpa. With PDVSA, ANCAP plans to construct a plant with a production capacity of 500,000t of clinker.   

Akcansa pays TRY 3.5mn in fines, Turkey

Turkish cement producer Akcanca announced that the company made a payment of TRY 3.5m (US$2.6m) in fines. The competition board had fined the company a total of TRY5.7m after investigations regarding the Akcanca’s cement and ready-mixed concrete operations in the Aegean region. Jordan Cement company reduces prices

An agreement between the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Jordan Cement Factories Company (JCFC) reduced cement prices by JD4.64/t Industry and Trade Minister Salem Khazaaleh told reporters during the weekly press briefing. Bahrain Islamic Bank and Bahrain-based Falcon Cement Company has signed a BD6.130m ’Ijara wa Iqtina’ (lease to purchase) agreement. Pakistan cement industry to consume 2.9Mt coal

The Pakistan cement industry is likely to consume 2.8 to 2.9Mt of coal in the current financial year, a leading coal importer told Daily Times, as coal import sees a significant increase. Najeeb Balagamwala cited the massive capacity expansion undertaken by the industry as the reason for the rise in import. Saudi cement firms told to reverse price rise

The Saudi government has ordered the country’s cement producers to reverse increases of as much as 71 per cent in their prices, calling them unjustified. "Trade and Industry Minister Hashem bin Abdullah Yamani has issued a decision to halt the increase in the sale-price of cement introduced by the companies during the month of Rabii Al Akher and to bring prices back to their level before this date," the ministry said in a statement yesterday. The Kursk Construction Company will invest $150m in the construction of a cement plant in the Solntsevo District of the Kursk Region (central Russia).
