Akmenes Cement to borrow for expansion

Lithuania’s only cement manufacturer Akmenes Cementas is borrowing LTL212m (EUR61.45m) from a syndicate of banks to finance the biggest modernisation project in its history, which involves shifting from wet to dry cement production technology. The syndicate is led by SEB Vilniaus Bankas and includes DnB Nord, Hansabankas, Sampo and Snoras. Sinoma Wins Large Overseas Project

China National Materials Industry Group (Sinoma) recently signed a general contract in Beijing with Vietnam-based Hoang Phat Trading, Manufacturing, Investment and Developing Company Limited, revealed Sinoma on May 21st. The contract was valued at US$72.118m and includes the expansion of a 6000tpd cement and clinker production line at Vinakansal Cement Plant.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade is weighing legal measures against the Jordan Cement Factories Company (JCFC) for excessively raising cement prices, according to a statement issued on Sunday.In the statement, the ministry said the company indicated that its procedures would be based on the Anti-trust Law issued in 2004.   Ecuador investment plans The Ecuador Development Corporation (CAF) has recently approved a US$40 million loan to cement manufacturing company Lafarge Cementos (former Cementos Selva Alegre). By this means, Lafarge will implement its Llama project in Ecuador that is aimed at doubling the production capacity of the Otavalo-based plant from 800,000tpa to 1.6Mta. In 2006, Lafarge posted sales of US$75 million and for this year it sees US$80 million.

Vietnam likely to become largest ASEAN cement producer

Indian cement prices are likely to remain flat despite the recent reduction in excise duty by the government. So far, Gujarat has witnessed a marginal reduction of Rs 1 per bag, while the southern region hasn’t shown any sign of a cool-off, yet.
