Sabanci to invest more in cement

Turkey’s Sabanci Holding cement group plans US$367m investment, mainly for capacity increase this year, said head of Sabanci’s cement group Erhan Kamisli. Akcansa will invest US$310m while, Cimsa and Oysa will invest US$62m and US$4m, respectively. Hundreds of jobs will be secure in the UK Midlands despite the UK£8 billion agreed takeover of building materials group Hanson by Germany’s HeidelbergCement. Production of cement increased by 29 per cent in April, compared to March. In January-April 2007 production of cement rose by 30.2 per cent, as compared with the same period of 2006, to 3,867,000t. Peruvian domestic cement sales increase

Cement sales on the domestic Peruvian market increased to 756,471t in the first four months of 2007 from 570,541t for the same period of 2006, the Peruvian cement producers association Asocem said on May 16, 2007. Rising energy costs over the past three months have forced Vietnamese producers to keep steel and cement prices high, despite global commodity trends to the contrary. Cement factory blaze investigated

A fire at a cement factory in Flintshire is being investigated by the Environment Agency. The blaze at the Castle Cement plant in Padeswood, near Mold, started on the  seventh floor of the production tower early on Monday. The North Wales Fire and Rescue Service said it involved 100 kilograms of rubber chippings on a conveyor belt.
