Cypriot cement maker Vassiliko Cement Works said its consolidated net profit grew to C£5.7m (US$12.8m) in the first nine months of 2006 from C£4.8m (US$10.7m) a year earlier, on the back of higher sales. Malaysia’s YTL Corporation Bhd posted a net profit of RM154.13m in the first quarter ended Sept 30, 2006, down 11.8% from RM174.83m a year ago. It announced on Nov 23 that net profit from operations improved 11.5% to RM364.1m from RM326.5m. Cement consumption in Spain rose by 7.92 per cent YoY to over 46.7Mt in the first 10 months of 2006, the Spanish cement makers association Oficemen said. Cement output in Spain totalled some 45.1Mt, increasing by 6.72 per cent. Spanish cement imports continued growing, standing at 10.4Mt, up 17.5 per cent.
