Lafarge in the race for Himachal

Lafarge is in the running for setting up an Al Sindi cement plant at Himachal Pradesh’s Mandi district. About half a dozen Indian firms are eyeing the project. Semen Gresik sales down

PT Semen Gresik said sales in the five months to  May fell 1.3 per cent year-on-year to 6.01Mt, led by a big fall in  exports.  It said domestic sales in the five months rose to 5.68Mt from 5.45Mt a year earlier while exports dropped 48.6 per cent to 327,934t from 637, 973t previously. Mayor Braulio Yaranon has approved a City Council resolution, which called for a congressional inquiry on the alleged overpricing of cement by select manufacturers. The resolution was passed on account of reports mostly from construction firms that local manufacturers have overpriced the cement sold to them.
