Orangeburg County Chief Deputy Coroner, Sean D Fogle, reported that on Tuesday Lennox W Hinckson, 65, died in a work-related incident at the Holcim (US) Inc Holly Hill cement plant, South Carolina, USA. The immediate cause of death was not available but the manner of death was ruled accidental. Mexico's construction industry contracted 6.6 per cent YoY during the third quarter of 2019, its worst period since the first quarter of 2009, due to lack of public work and fewer Infrastructure. Cement demand in Morocco increased 12.1 per cent YoY to 1.355Mt in October 2019 when compared with 1.208Mt supplied in October 2018, according to data published by the country’s Ministry of Housing and Urbanisation. All-India cement prices have reportedly fallen two per cent MoM in November on the back of reduced demand, according to Centrum Broking. The all-India average cement price in October-November was around INR303/50kg bag (US$4.23/50kg bag), down from around INR309 in the July-September quarter and a considerable decline from around INR360 in the 1QFY19-20.

Colombia’s cement market expanded by 2.6 per cent to 1.111Mt in October 2019 when compared with 1.083Mt in October 2018, according to the country’s national statistics office, DANE. Azerbaijan records 2% decline in cement production

Azerbaijan has seen a two per cent YoY decline in cement production to 2.8Mt during the 10M19, according to the State Statistical Committee. Overall construction materials output rose by 3.8 per cent YoY in terms of value to AZN648.7m (US$382.3m). Ready-mix concrete production surged 27.8 per cent to 1.52Mt compared with the 10M18, while the output of prefabricated concrete structures decreased 55.4 per cent to 35,700m 3 .

New quality regulations due for Panama's cement market

New quality regulations for Panama’s cement market are due to come into effect on 3 December 2019 and are expected to affect cement importers, distributors and sellers, according to La Estrella de Panamá. The new norms establish that all hydraulic cement commercialised in the market, including imported cement, must comply legislation issued by the Ministry of Commerce and Industries in July 2019, which encompasses labelling, storage, testing and chemical content among other specifics.

Algeria’s cement export revenues have increased more than 251 per cent YoY in the first nine months of 2019, rising to over US$51m from US$14.54m, according to the Customs’ Directorate of Studies and Prospective (DEPD). Cement production in Vietnam has increased 9.6 per cent to 8.7Mt in November 2019, according to the country’s General Statistics Office. In the first 11 months of this year, output is likely to have advanced by 7.6 per cent to 87.9Mt. In 2018 the country’s cement industry produced 90.2Mt of cement, up 9.1 per cent YoY.
