Central Bank reviews Pakistan's cement industry performance in FY19

Pakistan State Bank has released its annual report for the FY2018-19, in which the bank reviewed the performance of all sectors, including the country's cement industry. Real GDP growth decelerated to 3.3 per cent in FY19, compared to 5.5 per cent last year. The Global Cement and Concrete Association (GCCA) has added two new member companies and three new affiliates. Membership now totals 38 member companies and 18 affiliates. The new member companies are Cementos Progreso SA of Guatemala and Vassiliko Cement Works Public Co Ltd of Cyprus. Gwana Cement Factory to produce cement in US$864m deal

Nigeria’s Bauchi State Government has signed a US$864m deal with an American investment company to produce cement at the Gwana Cement Factory. Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed, made the disclosure at the opening ceremony of a three-day event for the FCT Minister’s Press Corps in Bauchi. The latest data released by the Pakistan Federal Bureau of Statistics shows that large-scale manufacturing industries (LSMI) observed a negative trend in Pakistan's manufacturing sector during July-August 2019-20, including the cement sector. The US Portland Cement Association (PCA) has published its annual Fall Forecast in which it predicts moderate growth for cement demand through 2019 and into 2020. In 2018 cement production in Poland broke records to reach 18.94Mt, according to data from the Central Statistical Office (CSO). Furthermore, production is up by 0.4 per cent YoY to nearly 12.3Mt in the 8M19. Cement production in Azerbaijan declined 1.2 per cent YoY in the 9M19 to 2.539Mt, according to the State Statistics Committee. Overall construction materials output rose by 4.2 per cent in terms of value to AZN580.5m (US$342.2m) in the 9M19. Cement consumption in Indonesia remained largely stable at 6,728,921t in September 2019 when compared with September 2018, according to the latest data by the country’s cement association, ASI. Cement consumption in Spain has increased 2.6 per cent YoY to 1,162,861t in September 2019, according to Oficemen, the Spanish cement association. However, Imports surged 87.5 per cent YoY to 50,000t. Demand in the first nine months of 2019 has advanced by 8.5 per cent YoY to close to 11Mt. However, exports have continued to fall.
