Grande Cimenterie du Katanga plans 1.2Mta output in 2020

La Grande Cimenterie du Katanga (GCK), Democratic Republic of Congo, expects to produce 1.2Mta of cement in 2020, according to a report by Agence Congolaise de Presse. GECAMINES, in partnership with China Cement and HMIE Group, is investing US$160m to build a plant. The joint venture was formed on 13 July 2011 and subsequently, in 2017, was expanded to enable it to have the required capital.

Cement export from Pakistan shows mixed revenue in 1QFY20

Pakistan's cement industry earned foreign exchange revenue of US$66.77m by exporting 1.61Mt of cement between July and September 2019, compared to US$77.59m from exporting 1.78Mt of cement in same months last year, says the country's Federal Bureau of Statistics. Tajikistan produces 3.1Mt of cement in the 9M19

In January-September 2019, Tajikistan produced construction materials worth TJS2bn (US$207m), an increase of TJS257.5m compared to the 9M18, according to the Ministry of Industry and New Technologies of Tajikistan. During the first nine months of the year, the country produced 3.1Mt of cement. Cement exports during the period reached 1.2Mt, representing a value of US$51.4m. This includes 725,600t to Uzbekistan, 427,400t to Afghanistan and 58,500t to Kyrgyzstan.

Pakistan's FDI continues to slide in 1QFY19-20

Pakistan has received net foreign direct investment (FDI) of US$542.1m in the July-September 2019 period, compared to US$559.4m, received in same months last year. Thai Boon Roong Cement set to inaugurate new 3500tpd plant

Cambodia’s Thai Boon Roong Cement Co Ltd is expected to inaugurate its new 3500tpd facility in Dang Tong district, Kampot, next month. As Kampot’s fourth cement plant, the province’s production capacity will rise to 17,000tpd and bring the country’s total domestic capacity to 8Mta, according to the Phnom Penh Post. Total shipments of Portland and blended cement, including imports, in the USA and Puerto Rico advanced 7.7 per cent YoY to 10Mt in July, according to the US Geological Survey (USGS). Uganda sees big drop in cement prices

Uganda has seen increased competition and lower cement prices with the entry of Simba Cement (National Cement – Devki Group) and Kampala Cement. A 50kg bag now retails at an average price of UGX28,000 (US$5.70), down from UGX39,000 (US$10.80). While Hima Cement (LafargeHolcim)and Tororo Cement remain the dominant players, competition has been accelerated by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Co-operatives' measures to fast-track licensing of new cement manufacturers.

Peru’s cement consumption increased 6.5 per cent to 1.035Mt in September 2019 when compared with September 2018, according to Asocem, the country’s cement association. Cement dispatches in Morocco increased by 9.4 per cent YoY to 1.14Mt in September, up from 1.04Mt in September 2018, according to the country’s cement association, APC.
