Antitrust chief says may increase fine on Eurocement, Russia

Mexico’s Grupo Cementos de Chihuahua (GCC) consolidated results for the fourth quarter and full year ended December 31, 2005.   Net sales in the fourth quarter of 2005 increased 37.1% to a record $1,336.2m pesos. Gresik posts US$100m net profit, Indonesia

State-run cement maker PT Semen Gresik  posted a net profit of Rp936.314bn (US$100.8m) last year, up by 83.37 per cent from a year earlier.    Sales rose 44.37 per cent to Rp8.759 trillion in 2005 from Rp6.067 trillion in 2004, the company’s corporate secretary Anas Rosjidi said on Monday.    In the fourth quarter of 2005, sales reached Rp2.289 trillion, while net profits stood at Rp229.942bn.

The largest cement producer in Slovakia, Holcim Slovensko, a.s, Rohoznik wants to merge with Stredoslovenska Cementaren, s.r.o. Banska Bystrica. Both companies deposited a draft agreement on merger in the document collection of the Corporate Register on February 24. Cement prices in Andhra Pradesh are at a new high with the onset of summer, which usually sees hectic construction activity in the state.   According to market sources, the average retail price is now in the range of Rs 145-148 per bag in Hyderabad, Rs 143-145 in Vijayawada, Rs 154-156 in Chittoor and Rs 160-165 in Srikakulam and Visakhapatnam. China’s cement industry experienced healthy growth in 2005 despite rising energy costs and lower prices due to more efficient labor. The number of loss-making companies, however, increased. Cimpor said it has sold its 19 per cent stake in Spain’s Cementos Lemona SA to Cementos Portland Valderrivas SA for EUR69.2m.    Cimpor said the 2.16M shares its Spanish unit Corporacion Noroeste SA held in Lemonas were tendered to Valderrivas under the terms of the latter’s takeover bid for 100% of Lemona.   

Colombia’s Cementos Argos 2005 net up

Cementos Argos SA , the biggest Colombian cement maker, said its net profit in 2005 fell three per cent to COP225bn (US$100.2m) from COP232bn the year before mainly because of lower prices in Colombia.   Its sales volume rose 41% in 2005 from the year before, though lower prices reduced profit margins, the company said in a filing to the financial regulator.    Last year, Argos bought two cement companies in the US for a total amount of US$257m.    The company’s debt rose 51% to COP1.2 tr...
