Yadhupati Singhania, promoter of the Kanpur-based JK Cement Ltd, is planning to set up an integrated greenfield cement plant of three million tonnes per annum capacity in Karnataka. Consumption up 5.1%, Spain

Cement consumption in Spain rose by 5.1 per cent YoY to over 46.8Mt in the 11 months to November 2005, the Spanish cement makers association Oficemen said. Cement output in Spain stood at 45.5Mt, rising by 5.9 per cent. Spanish cement imports totalled 8.5Mt, up 14.5 per cent. Lithuania’s only cement manufacturer, posted sales of LTL113.93m EUR 33m) for the first 11 months of this year, a rise of 16 per cent from sales of LTL98.25m a year earlier.    Sales for November jumped by 43.1 per cent YoY to LTL10.56m. Teixeira Duarte boosts stake in Cimpor, Portugal

Portuguese construction group Teixeira Duarte spent EUR60m to boost its stake in the share capital of local cement producer Cimpor from 20 per cent to over 22 per cent. According to the latest data from Portugal’s national securities regulator CMVM, Teixeira Duarte currently controls 151.1M Cimpor shares, corresponding to 22.49 per cent of the company’s share capital and to 22.62 per cent of the voting rights.

Update on Ilam project

Construction works on the second phase of Ilam cement plant is underway with 27 per cent now complete. All the equipments for the development has been purchased and imported, costing about EUR27m. When operational, the second phase would be capable of producing 3400tpd of cement, the plant director said. Daily production from Ilam currently stands at about 2000t.

Semapa to book EUR390m gain from Enersis disposal
