US Federal mining officials are investigating the cause of an explosion and fire at a cement plant outside Branford late Monday that sent two employees to a hospital burn unit (reports the Sun Sentinel). The incident at Suwannee American Cement happened at about 11:45 p.m. Monday according to Suwannee County Sheriff Tony Cameron. CP Cimento is now reportedly up for sale. The indebted and loss-making cement maker is Brazil’s seventh largest with a five per cent market share and operates four plants in the populous South-east. Lafarge, which owns a small stake in the family-controlled company, as well as Cimpor and Camargo Corrêa may bid for some if not all of the CP Cimento assets.

Moscow: the Eurocement Group produced 19.7Mt of cement in the first 10 months of 2005 including output from the two Ukrainian enterprises of the group produced in the same period more than 2.4Mt.
