Pakistan's exports to India fall 41% in FY19

Pakistan’s cement exports to India fell 41 per cent to 0.716Mt in the FY19 ended 30 June, with no exports to the country taking place between March-September. The decline is the result of a 200 per cent duty set by the Indian government, according to The Daily Times. Furthermore, revenue from overall exports declined 13.2 per cent YoY to US$42.15m in the first two months of the current fiscal year.

Ukrainian capacity utilisation on the rise

Antidumping duties on Portland cement and clinker from Belarus, Moldova and Russia introduced by the Ukrainian government last summer have led to an increase in output and capacity utilisation in Ukraine’s cement plants, according to Interfax-Ukraine. "We regard this step as positive, which allowed us to increase the load of enterprises and output of marketable products. Now our capacities are 90 per cent loaded," said Mykola Kruts, the chairman of the board of Ivano-Frankivskcement.

Siguaney prepares to restart production

Puerto Rican cement sales fell 7.4 per cent in September 2019 when compared with the previous year. A total of 1.02m of 42.5kg bags, or 43,350t was sold on the domestic market, according to Sin Comillas. The latest drop in sales represents the eighth-consecutive month of market contraction. Laos quarry blast kills one and injuries 20 people

A Chinese-operated cement plant in northern Laos caused the death of at least one person and injuries to 20 others when it started blasting operations at a quarry in Luang Prabang province, northern Laos on Saturday. Colombian cement dispatches advanced 3.4 per cent YoY to 1.099Mt in August 2019 from 1.061Mta year earlier, according to the country’s statistics office, DANE. Casanare, Huila, Bolívar and Santander delivered the strongest growth with a YoY improvement of 48.4, 19.8, 15.6 and 13.7 per cent, respectively.
