Russian antitrust body postpones Eurocement Group hearing

Indonesia’s largest cement maker PT Semen Gresik’s July cement sales grew 6.3 pct year-on-year to 1.48Mt boosted by strong local sales, a report by the Indonesian Cement Association (ASI) said.  The report said Semen Gresik’s domestic sales in July rose 6.7% YoY to 1.27Mt from 1.19Mt a year earlier while exports increased 4.3% to 209,972t.  In first seven months to July, Semen Gresik sold 9.04Mt of cement against 8.68Mt a year ago, with domestic sales accounting for 7.96Mt against 7.42Mt...

East African Portland Cement, one of the country’s leading producers, sold more than 60,000 tonnes of cement in July, the highest ever in the company’s history. A cement company with a capital of SAR1.2bn (US$320m) will start operations in al-Jouf, northern Saudi Arabia. The company will operate under the name Al-Jouf Cement. It will be a closed shareholding company and its capital has already been fully subscribed. The European Investment Bank, the European Union’s long-term lending institution, has signed loan facilities totalling US$150m (EUR 123m) with Obajana Cement PLC, a subsidiary of Dangote Industries Limited of Nigeria. Indian Cement production recorded a 0.77 per cent growth at 10.51Mt in July 2005, against 10.43Mt in the same month a year ago. Despatches also rose 1.17 per cent to 10.38Mt from 10.26Mt in the monthly review period, according to latest updates by Cement Manufacturers’ Association. Cement exports showed a 18.18 per cent decline to 0.27Mt last month from 0.33Mt a-year ago.
