INC surpasses 2004 earnings

Paraguay’s state-owned cement maker Industria Nacional del Cemento (INC) posted earnings of 3.42bn guaranís (US$548,296) at end-April this year, far surpassing the nearly 1.5bn guaranís in the whole of 2004.  This year will be one of the most profitable on record, thanks to higher clinker and cement production, local newspaper La Nació quoted INC head Amícar Troche as saying.  The company is in a position to export excess stock and has the lowest prices in South America, Troche said.  IN...

TPI to auction stake in cement unit?

Thai Petrochemical Industry (TPI) may sell its 30-per cent stake in cement maker TPI Polene PCL by auction, a source at TPI’s debt administrator said.    The plan was one of two options and the government-appointed management team would make decision on how to sell the TPI Polene stake on June 7, the source, who declined to be identified, told Reuters.    "It is possible they will decide to open an auction on the TPI Polene stake because it is fast and transparent process," the source said....

The chairman of the Brazilian steel manufacturer CSN (Companhia Siderurgica Nacional), Benjamin Steinbruch, said that the construction project of the Rio de Janeiro cement plant is completed and may involve the initial production of 1.5Mta. Indian shipments rise

Associated Cement Companies Ltd, India’s second-biggest cement maker, said its May shipments rose eight  per cent from a year ago to 1.52Mt. The Bombay-based company said production totalled 1.57Mt, up 12 percent on year.  Meanwhile, Aditya Birla group, said its May shipments rose 14.2 percent on a year before to 2.48Mt.   Cement production was up 14 percent at 2.52Mt.  

Sabanci Holding plans US$150m cement factory, Romania

Turkish conglomerate Sabanci Holding is interested in developing a $150m  cement factory in Romania, government officials said on Thursday.  The plant would produce 1Mta, Romania’s economy ministry said in a statement.    Sabanci Holding also showed interest in future deals, including the import and export of electricity and the construction of an undersea power link between Romania and Turkey. Saudi Q1 2005 cement output reaches 6.456Mt

The cement output of Saudi Arabia’s eight listed cement companies rose to 6.456Mt for the first three months of 2005 from 6.169Mt in the corresponding period of 2004, recent statistics showed.    Cement exports increased to 457,000t from 398,000t, as only three of the eight companies exported cement during the period. Clinker exports registered a drop to 51,000t from 75,000t.
