Cemex to form joint-venture with Ready Mix USA

Cement maker Holcim Hungaria Cementipari Rt, a subsidiary of Holcim group plans to invest EUR 220m  in the construction of an environment-friendly cement factory in Nyergesujfalu, in northwestern Hungary. Gansu Qilianshan Cement Co Ltd said it plans to build two cement production lines in the northwestern regions of Ningxia and Gansu with a total investment of around CNY900m.   The two lines will each have a daily production capacity of 5000t. Bosnian cement plant Tvornica Cementa Kakanj (TCK), owned by HeidelbergCement, said it is to invest 6m marka (US$3.8m) this year to upgrade its production facilities.  "We plan to spend 5m marka on the construction of a new clinker storage silo and 1m marka on the renovation of our cement mills by the end of the year," TCK communications coordinator Emina Dedic said. A total of 11.4Mt of cement was produced in Russia in January-April 2005, a 0.7 per cent rise against the same period 2004. In January-April 2004 production of cement rose 17 per cent, press service of Eurocement Group reported.  

Italcementi completes underground tunnel between sites, Italy

Italcementi has completed work on a tunnel of nearly 10km linking its quarry and its cement factory in Calusco D’Adda, near Milan.  The tunnel will remove the environmental impact previously caused on local public roads by the company’s 10,000 yearly lorry trips between the two sites.

Cement firm Holcim’s maritime woes look set to continue as it will be at least next week before its cement ships can leave Westport harbour fully loaded. Tanga Cement Co. Limited has donated 250 bags (12.5t) of cement to the Tanzania Private Sector Foundation (TPSF).
