Cement consumption in India recorded a 6 per cent increase during 2004-05 over the previous fiscal year. Cement maker PT Indocement Tunggal Prakarsa said it may not distribute dividends from last year’s profit as it gives priority to repaying debts. Semen Padang, a subsidiary of state-owned Semen Gresik, secured a loan of Rp190 billion (US$20m) from Bank Central Asia (BCA). Semen Gresik President Satriyo said the loan fund will be used to refinance a debt to state-owned Bank Mandiri and to strengthen its working capital. Slovak cement maker Povazska cementaren made profit worth almost Sk177 million in 2004, a drop of five per cent on the year, Jozef Sutara, an assistant to Povazska CEO, told CTK today.   Sales were flat year-on-year at Sk1.565 billion. Kenyans completed new buildings worth Sh2.3 billion last year, adding a clean Sh1 billion to the 2003 figure. A major beneficiary of the virtually private-sector-driven boom was the cement manufacturing industry, which chalked up growth of 11.9 per cent. Santa Cruz, La Paz drive Q1 cement production

Cement production in Bolivia in the first quarter grew 9.24 per cent to 308,973t compared to 1Q04, the country’s national statistics institute (INE) reported. The increase was due principally to higher production at plants in Santa Cruz and La Paz departments, which saw production grow 30.5 per cent to 57,318t and 7.44 per cent to 71,247t, respectively.  In terms of overall production, Chuquisaca department led the country with 80,314t, up 4.72 per cent.
