Clan donates land to factory Uganda: the Karuwok clan in Tororo district has agreed to sell its land to Tororo cement factory for its expansion.  In a letter to the financial controller of the industry, clan spokesman Christopher Ochwo said the land would be offered on condition that the factory paid for it and compensated them for items on it. The clan also asked for some form of premium for the land.

Florida Crushed Stone has announced plans for a $150m expansion that would more than double the amount of cement produced at its Brooksville operation. Cement sales rise in Indonesia

Sales of cement on the domestic market rose slightly to 1.99Mt in Nov. 2004 from 1.97Mt in the same month in 2003. Data at the Indonesian cement association said exports rose to 562,787t in November 2004 from 551,918t in the same months in 2003. Exports in the first 11 months of this year totalled 2.56Mt, up from 2.52Mt in the same period last year. Sales on the domestic market rose  eight per cent to 27.244Mt in the Jan-Nov. period.

Indian cement makers expect a small increase in the offtake of cement in Tamil Nadu, Kerala and the Andaman & Nicobar islands due to reconstruction efforts after the destruction caused by the tsunami. A new cement company, called Barbar Cement Company, was established in Sudan on December 28, 2004. The company’s shareholders include Saudi-based The Arab Investment Company (TAIC), the National Cement Company, a part of the UAE diversified group of companies al-Ghurair Group, the Sudanese High Tech Group and the local construction company Dan Fodio.
