The Qatar National Cement Company (QNCC) has just started construction works on its project for the establishment of a third cement plant.   Qatar’s Crown Prince, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani, laid the foundation stone for the project.  The new plant, located in Umm Bab, will have a design daily capacity of 4000tpd of clinker and is expected to reach its full capacity in the second half of 2006. Government narrows options for settling dispute with Cemex

The government has selected six out of 16 possible options for settling a dispute with  Cemex SA over the sale of its 51 per cent stake in state-run cement firm PT Semen Gresik, the Koran Tempo reported quoting State Minister for State Enterprises Sugiharto.   A government negotiation team will meet with Cemex to present the six options one by one, Sugiharto said.   He declined to reveal the options. UK Ready mix, cement and blacktop prices set to rise in early 2005. Portuguese cement producer Secil is studying the option to change its electricity provider, the Portuguese utility EDP - Energias de Portugal, with a Spanish provider, it was reported on December 16, 2004.   Currently Secil, which is among Portugal’s largest electricity consumers, is reportedly studying two Spanish companies to put in place of EDP.
