Pakistan cement sector to add capacity

Slovenian cement manufacturer Salonit Anhovo has acquired a 54.93 per cent stake in its local building materials firm Kema Puconci.   Salonit acquired the 119,382 shares by 30 December. Indocement sees demand up due to Aceh work

PT Indocement Tunggal Prakarsa, a unit of Germany’s Heidelberger Zement AG, said it expects demand for cement to increase once reconstruction work begins in the tsunami-hit Aceh province, but added that it is uncertain whether the company will derive any financial benefit. Cemex completion of RMC buy postponed

Cemex said the completion of its acquisition of RMC Group PLC will be postponed because the deal has not yet received clearance from the US anti-trust authorities.   The court hearing to complete the deal, which was due to take place on Jan 11, will be postponed, Cemex said.   It said it remains confident that the necessary clearance will be obtained and expects the acquisition to become effective during February.   The acquisition received clearance from the European Commission on Dec 8.  

Cement industry expects to grow 8-9%

Construction supplier sales up 15%

Confirming the trend seen in previous months, the sales index of the Chilean construction sector’s wholesale providers climbed substantially in November. The year-on-year gain in the month reached 15.2 per cent, while seasonally-adjusted figures showed a 10.3 per cent increase. Gujarat Ambuja cement has recorded a 11 per cent rise in cement despatches at 1.254Mt in December 2004 against 1.123Mt registered in the same month a year ago. Gujarat Ambuja said in a statement, the despatches for the period July-December 2004 grew 15 per cent to 7.031Mt  from 6.086Mt in the corresponding period a year earlier. The export of cement recorded an increase of 58.52 percent to 777,352t in the first half (July-December) of the current fiscal year compared to the same period last year, according to the data released by the All Pakistan Cement Manufacturers Association (APCMA) on Wednesday.
