Malaysia’s MP Tech buys 10% of cement maker Hongkew; in JV to build plant

  Plastic products maker MP Technology Resources Bhd said it has agreed to buy a 10 pct stake in Hongkew Holdings Sdn Bhd for 20m rgt cash and also team up with the unit to build jointly a cement  plant in Gua Musang in Kelantan state.         Hongkew is the owner of the 35 per cent completed cement plant.   In a statement, MP said the company and Hongkew will form a 40:60 joint  venture firm, to be called SG Eastern Holdings Sdn Bhd (SGEH), to develop and  run the plant.         ...

Cement production up 12.73% in Jan-Oct, Bolivia

Between January and October Bolivia’s cement output went up 12.73% compared to the same months last year. The rise is due to the growth in production at cement plants from the Departments of Cochabamba and Chuquisaca. Until October Cochabamba’s production increased 25.4% compared to the same period of 2003, totaling a volume of 225,773 tonnes. Cement production in Chuquisaca rose 15.27%, as published by Los Tiempos newspaper.    

Egypt to set up cement plant in New Valley

Egypt’s General Authority for Investment & Free Zones (GAFI) has reportedly approved the setting up of a new cement company in the New Valley governorate, southwestern Egypt. The new company will have an authorised capital of E£40m (US$6.4m), while its issued capital will be E£10m (US$1.6m). Construction companies in Kerala have been hit by the sharp rise in the prices of cement and steel. Raysut proposes capital hike, Oman

Oman’s cement producer Raysut Cement Company has proposed to raise its capital to OMR20m (US$52m) from OMR15m (US$38.9m). The capital hike will be carried out through a rights issue of 5M shares at 3.0 rials per share. Taiwan Cement surpasses full year target

Taiwan Cement , the island’s old brand name cement plant and the cement production arm of the famous Hosing Koo’s conglomerate, announced that its revenue in the first ten month had surpassed NT$22 billion with the profits in the first three quarters reaching already the whole year target. The company recently completed its second jointly-venture case with mainland top cement producer Anhui Conch Cement Company to tap mainland China market.
