The Taiwanese Legislative Yuan yesterday passed a budget for the long-awaited ten new development plans. These plans seem particularly promising to the cement and steel industries. The NT$36.5 billion budget, originally for this fiscal year, will be used for infrastructure construction. Honduras’ government has fixed the factory price of a one-quintal bag of cement at 70 lempiras (US$3.93) in an effort to halt rising prices, local press reported.  In the first two weeks of August, cement producers in the country increased the price of a bag of cement by 12%, causing the price in some stores to increase to almost US$5.05 a bag. Cement sales in Peru fell 5.8% in July to 309,956t in comparison with same month last year, according to figures from cement association Asocem.  Brokerage Centura SAB attributed the high level of purchases in July 2003 to an anticipated value added tax increase in August last year. The increase rate of China’s cement output in the first seven months of this year continued to fall. Statistics show the output came to 502.62Mt, up 17 per cent year-on-year. Included was the monthly output of 77.62Mt in July, up 10.4 per cent over the year-earlier period but lower than any month of this year. Chia Hsin Cement Greater China Holding Corp said it raised its cement prices by 5-10 percent at the end of July as China’s macro-economic measures helped to control the supply of cement.
