YTL Cement Bhd said it may buy more shares in Perak-Hanjoong Simen Sdn Bhd from existing shareholders if they offer to sell their shares.  YTL Cement currently holds a 32% stake in Perak-Hanjoong. The Brazilian cement manufacturer Votorantim Cimentos has acquired the Ceara based concrete producer Britap through the controlled Engemix. The concrete segment accounts for around 5% of the company’s turnover of R$4bil. Votorantim has been active in this segment with a 20% market share since 2002, when it took over Engemix. Cement shipments in Chile fell 0.4% to 1.85Mt in the first semester compared to 1H03, according to information from the country’s cement and concrete institute (ICH).  The drop in the first few months of this year was due to the conclusion of large infrastructure projects.  For the period, Melón held the top market share position in regard to shipments with 37.6% (696,423t), followed by Polpaico with 33.5% (620,326t) and Bío Bío with 28.9% (534,268t). Indonesia’s domestic cement sales grew by 9.2 per cent in June to 2.59Mt compared to the same period a year ago, the country’s largest cement maker PT Semen Gresik Tbk said on Tuesday.  Gresik sold a total of 1.38Mt of cement last month, including exports, up 20 per cent from the same month in 2003, the company said on its Web site.
