Anti-dumping duty imposed on Chinese cement

Jamaica’s Anti-Dumping and Subsidies Commission (ADSC) imposed an antidumping duty of 89.8% on cement imports from China, the Jamaica Gleaner reported.  The duties will take effect July 30 to run for five years.  The decision came after the commission decided that cement imported from China has been dumped on the local market. Cement consumption down in May

Spanish cement consumption in May dropped 1.17 percent from the same month a year earlier to 4.09Mt, the first fall in the month since 1996 when the current property boom took off, industry association Oficemen said. May is traditionally one of the most active months for the construction industry in Spain. Output in the five months to May was up 2.43 percent.

Local market needs more cement

Total local consumption of cement in Jordan stood at 2.7Mt last year, Jordan Cement Factories Company (JCFC) General Manager Samer Biriqdar said on Wednesday. He indicated that the local market’s need of this commodity ranges between 2.5 to 3.5Mt annually. JCFC production capacity stands at 4.4Mta, Biriqdar remarked. JCFC is also preparing programmes to promote and further market its products in Jordan and abroad, according to JCFC chief.

Cement demand in Spain stood at 19.4Mt in the first five months of 2004, up 2.4 per cent YoY, Spanish Cement Makers Association OFICEMEN have said. AB Akmenes Cementas, Lithuania’s only cement producer, announced that its five-month income reached 33.5m litas (EUR9.7m), a boost of almost 29 per cent from the corresponding period in 2003, the business daily Verslo Zinios reported. The board of directors of UAE Ras al-Khaimah cement manufacturer Union Cement approved on June 13, 2004 a proposal to install a new kiln with an annual capacity of 2.5Mt.
