Katavsky Cement Posts highest production growth

In a rating quarterly compiled by Russian Focus, Katavsky Cement tops the list of leading construction companies by production growth rates.  In the first five months of this year, Katavsky Cement, the oldest cement factory in South Urals, produced more than 191,000t of cement, boosting its output by 450 per cent year-on-year. The Syrian Rastan Company for Cement & Building Materials, located in Rastan in the western Syrian governorate of Homs, registered US$4.8m worth of sales for the first five months of 2004, it was reported on June 29, 2004.  The company produced over 53,000 tonnes of grey cement and about 7500 tonnes of oil-well cement in the period. Fire claims eight lives

Eight workers were burnt alive and more than nine were seriously wounded when furnace oil system at the Saadi Cement Factory in the Hattar industrial area, Pakistan, caught fire due to some faults in the machinery. The injured were taken to the Pakistan Ordnance Factory (POF) Hospital in Wah Cantt where conditions of three have been stated as critical. Lafarge SA said it will invest US$58m to double the capacity of its Dujiangyan cement plant in southwestern China by 2006, to cope with increasing demand. Indonesia’s domestic cement sales grew 6.3 per cent to 2.4Mt in May from a year earlier, the country’s largest cement maker PT Semen Gresik announced. Vietnam is likely to face cement shortage from now to 2010, as local cement producers cannot meet the country’s soaring demand for the product. Cement deliveries in Chile fell 2.8 per cent in the first five months of 2004 compared to the same period last year due to the conclusion of large infrastructure projects, according to a report by local financial firm CB Capitales.
