Brazil’s Jan-May sales down 8.9%

January-May sales of cement in the Brazil totalled 21.6Mt, according to preliminary industry data, indicating a YoY decline of 8.9 per cent. In the last 12 months accumulated sales totalled 55.3Mt, 10.1 per cent lower than the comparative period of the previous year, SNIC reported. In May alone, 4.543Mt of cement were sold, down 5.5 per cent YoY.

Indonesian consumption continues to rise

Indonesian cement consumption continued to rise last month, increasing by seven per cent YoY to 5.47Mt, according to latest data from the Indonesia Cement Association (ASI). The advance marks the second consecutive month of growth with demand being supported by a recovery in the property sector and infrastructure development projects. Sagar eyes 18% rise in production

Sagar Cements is expecting around 18 per cent jump in its production to 2.6Mt in FY17-18 following the consolidation of a grinding unit acquired last year. Further slight recovery in EU 28 cement production

According to CEMBUREAU’s 2016 Activity Report published yesterday, European cement production in the EU 28 further slightly recovered in 2015 (167.2Mt), confirming the cautious upward trend started in 2013 (166.6Mt) after the dramatic fall in the crisis period. Loma Negra board to consider equity offering

Cimpor announced that the board of directors of its subsidiary, Loma Negra (Argentina) has called for an Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) to consider the necessary moves required for it to pursue an equity offering on the local and international capital markets. The move is among the initiatives undertaken by Cimpor “to reinforce its capital structure,” the parent company said in a statement. The EGM will be held on 3 July in Olavarría, Argentina.

Cement prices in western India have recovered from the lows touched a year ago, and on a YoY basis have seen the highest improvement among all domestic regions.
