Peru's cement market shows minor decline in August

In August Peruvian cement demand reached 0.868Mt, representing 4.3 per cent decline YoY, according to Asocem, the country's cement association. To complement local output, around 43,000t of cement and 87,000t of clinker were imported. Saudi Arabia cement companies see sales and production fall 10%

Sales of cement by Saudi Arabian companies declined by 9.93 per cent YoY in August, while production dropped by 10.4 per cent, Mubasher reports. Output for August was 4.3Mt, while deliveries were 4.4Mt. The fall in sales was unevenly distributed, with some companies – notably Riyadh Cement and City Cement – seeing double-digit increases. Uganda: Hima Cement US$40m expansion

Hima Cement has said that the ongoing capacity expansion project at its new plant under construction in the Eastern district of Tororo will see an additional 1.9Mta of cement enter the local market. Hima CEO, Daniel Patterson, said that by the end of 2016 the company will have invested US$40m into the project.

India: Mangalam Cement production increase

Following a trial run at the plant in August 2016, Mangalam Cement’s new 0.75Mta grinding unit in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh, has commenced operations. Mali's government and Gaia Equity Ltd have signed on 16 September a memorandum of understanding and an establishment agreement for the construction of a 1.5Mta cement plant in the country. UK: Westbury cement works chimney demolished

The Westbury cement works, owned by Tarmac, constructed its site in the early 1960s. This weekend a 122m-high chimney at the site was demolished, after being taken out of action in 2009. Indonesia: August surge puts consumption growth back on course

The Indonesian Cement Association (ASI) reported that cement sales rose by 8.7 per cent from 5.49Mt in August 2015 to 5.97Mt in August 2016.
