Competition Commission clears Shree acquisition of Jaiprakash unit

Dominique Drouet, CEO of Holcim Morocco, has been appointed Area Manager for Africa Middle East and member of Senior Management of Holcim Ltd, effective 1 January 2015. US nine-month shipments preliminary data

Total shipments of Portland and blended cement in the US and Puerto Rico for the first nine months of the year reached 66.292Mt, preliminary data released by the US Geological Survey (USGS) yesterday shows. Of the total figure, domestic shipments accounted for 60.916Mt and imports for 5.376Mt. Vietnam cement companies sold 41.54Mt of cement in the domestic market in the first 10 months of this year, including 4.27Mt in October, the country’s Ministry of Construction (MoC) said. Spain’s monthly demand advances 5% YoY

Cement consumption in Spain increased by five per cent to 1,037,219t in October when compared with the same period last year, latest data from domestic association Oficemen shows. Despite the industry’s recovery still being far off, October’s advance is the second consecutive monthly rise following September’s 6.1 per cent YoY increase. In the first 10 months of 2014, cement demand  slipped 0.5 per cent YoY to 9,116,872t. Figures for the rolling year show a 2.2 per cent fall.

HeidelbergCement has halted production at its 1.8Mta cement factory in Donetsk, eastern Ukraine after pro-Russian rebels in the regions wanted to impose their own agenda on the production process, a HeidelbergCement spokesperson has said. “The separatists had their own ideas about how the business should be run,” said the German building materials group, which has three plants in Ukraine.
