INC awards International Materials clinker supply contract

Paraguayan state-owned cement company Industria Nacional del Cemento (INC) has awarded International Materials the contract to provide 60,000t of clinker. International Materials is based in the US, but this clinker shipment will come from Spain. The contract was scheduled to be signed this week it is hoped that the first deliveries of between 10,000t and 35,000t each will arrive in the first half of December 2014.

China demand nears 'turning point' - UBS

China's cement sector has entered the "new normal" of stagnant demand, according to UBS. "The turning point in China cement demand growth is near, in our view, amid limited potential upside in infrastructure investment growth and a structural downturn in the property sector," it says. Tajikistan 10-month output rises

Over the first 10 months of this year Tajikistan produced more than 1Mt of cement, an increase of 776,000t compared to the same period of last year, according to the Ministry of Industry and New Technologies (MoINT). The State Level Single Window Clearance Authority (SLSWCA) today approved three new cement grinding units in the eastern state of Odisha. Emami Cement has been given approval for a 1.5Mta grinding unit at Begunia in Khurda. Similarly, Shree Cement has proposed to establish a 3Mta cement grinding mill at Odapada in Dhenkanal district. Arabian Cement to set up Brazilian joint-venture

Egypt-based Arabian Cement Company, announced it will establish a grinding plant in northwest Brazil as part of a joint-venture agreement with local cement manufacturer Cementos Relampago, part of Cementos La Union. The 2.3Mta facility is expected to involve an investment of €23m ($28.7m), of which Arabian Cement will contribute €7m. Pakistan exports continue to fall in first quarter

Pakistan cement exports continued to fall in the first quarter of FY14-15, largely due to declining shipments to its biggest market of Afghanistan. Export volumes in the July-September 2014 period fell by 3.85 per cent to 2.436Mt while revenues were down 3.22 per cent to US$ 142.77m. In terms of the Pakistan rupee, revenues also showed a 5.38 per cent drop to PKR14.36bn. Cuba looks for foreign investment to build US$400m plant

An acceleration in third-quarter sales compared to the previous quarter indicated continuing growth in construction activity, according to latest figures from the Mineral Productions Association (MPA).
