NCCD plans new Egyptian plant

Egypt's National Company for Construction and Development (NCCD) is to build a cement plant due to the high price of locally-produced cement. The new facility will be aimed at covering cement requirements for the company's subsidiaries, Al Mal News reported, citing NCCD's chairman. The state-run firm is currently evaluating the best timing for the project. NCCD has 20 subsidiaries including nine general contractors.

Spain: September demand up 6.1%

In September, Spain’s cement consumption rose 6.1 per cent YoY to 959,150t, according to the latest figures issued by Oficemen, the country’s cement association. Peru: September dispatches up 3.7%

Cement dispatches in Peru rose 3.7 per cent in September to 904,840t, according to the country’s cement association, Asocem. Including exports, dispatches reached 946,762t. For 9M14, total domestic sales remained stable at 7.6Mt, edging up 0.4 per cent when compared with 9M13. Some 0.2Mt of exports were dispatched from the Latin American country in the period. Output registered a 0.81 per cent rise.

Holcim breaks ground on Timaru terminal

Holcim has hosted the official groundbreaking ceremony for its new cement import terminal at the Port of Timaru. Beni Suef reaches agreement to build coal mill, Egypt

Beni Suef has reached an agreement to build a coal mill worth in 12 months, the cement producer announced in a statement to the stock market. The project, worth EGP200m, will be funded through self-financing and loans, the company added. It is expected to be completed by the end of 2015.

Vietnam cement prices to rise?

The price of cement in Vietnam could be increased this month, according to the country's Ministry of Finance, without stating a reason for the potential rise. Cement is currently sold for VND1.05m-1.5m/t (US$49.5-70.7) in the northern region and VND1.46m-1.8m/t in the south. Clinker and cement export prices were also stable at US$38.2 and US$55.2/t, respectively, the ministry added.

Vicem Jan-Sept sales edge ahead

State-owned Vietnam Cement Industry Corporation (Vicem), the country’s leading cement producer, said it sold 16.14Mt of cement and clinker in the first nine months of this year, up 1.6 per cent from a year ago. JSW Group seeks to set up new Karnataka unit

JSW Group, is planning to set up a 3Mta clinker plant at Chittapur in Gulbarga district, in Karnataka state. The company is in the process of seeking statutory approvals to undertake exploratory drilling at a limestone deposit in Gulbarga. Dangote reduces Ghana prices on cedi appreciation

Dangote, has reduced prices of its cement by GHS2.70 following the gradual appreciation of the Cedi against the dollar and other major international trading currencies. Joeseph Kobina Abu, sales and marketing manager of Dangote Cement Ghana Ltd said the company has  reduced "the price from GHS30.75 to GHS28.05 “. The reduction took effect on 9 October 2014. GHACEM had also reduced its ex-factory price from GHS30.55 to GHS27.965/50kg bag, effective Tuesday, 7 October.

Savannah lines up new capacity investments

Savannah Cement, one of Kenya's newest market entrants, is set to build two new plants as it nears exhaustion of its current capacity, managing director, Ronald Ndegwa, said.
