Argentina records stable September sales

Argentina’s cement plants dispatched 1,054,294t of cement (including exports) in September 2014, according to the latest figures by the country’s cement association, AFCP. This represents an improvement of five per cent when compared with August and 0.3 per cent YoY. Exports fell from 9566t in September 2013 to 8863t one year later. Century Textiles Manikgarh unit starts production

Century Textiles & Industries has commenced production and started cement dispatches from its Manikgarh Cement Unit No II as of 26 September 2014. The new facility, which is an expansion of the Manikgarh Cement plant, has a capacity of 2.8Mta. The plant is situated in the western Indian state of Maharashtra.

Irish building materials major CRH is selling its clay brickwork division for up to GBP600m, according to reports in The Sunday Times. The move comes as the company prepares to bid for a group of cement business from Holcim and Lafarge as the two companies look to shed assets ahead of their proposed merger. Egypt: Suez Cement to close Tourah Factory 1

Suez Cement Co has voluntarily agreed to close its Tourah Factory 1 to comply with the local government's policy to reduce the number of facilities that do not meet environmental standards. The value of cement imports to Algeria in the first eight months of 2014 soared 31 per cent with a bill of US$373.5m against US$285.3m in the same period of last year, the Customs' National Centre for Data Processing and Statistics told the Algerie Presse Service (Algiers). Reliance Infrastructure plans to nearly triple its cement generation capacity to 15Mta over the next three years. The company's capacity currently stands at 5.8Mta from its plants in Madhya Pradesh (MP), Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh and Bengal. PT Semen Tonasa plans to develop a new factory in Papua with a total investment of up to IDR3trn (US$247.08m), to cut distribution costs, according to its CEO, Unggul Atas. Sales in the eastern provinces of Papua and Maluku until August reached 787,408t, down 1.5 per cent from a year earlier.
